Day 5

Another early day, leaving for Denali at 8 am, via the Alaska Railroad--about 7 hours to Denali National Park.

At 20,300 feet, Mt. McKinley is the highest mountain in North America, located in Denali National Park.  We were fortunate to see it from the train; however, the day in Denali it was clouded over.

What a pleasure to sit at linen-covered tables in the dining car while we sip a glass of wine and watch the beauty of the state pass before our eyes!  These folks are members of our group.

Hurricane Gulch

We stayed at the Denali Cabins near the Park and took off in the evening for a whitewater rafting adventure with "Mad Dog", our steerman and director on the Nenana River

The pic below is BEFORE David was thrown into the water at the rapid "Train Wreck"!  When he was fished out of the drink he didn't have such a big smile on his face but nevertheless had to "paddle for your life!"  A most memorable summer solstice adventure!

A few people in our group opted for the flightseeing tour of Mt McKinley...here is one photo of the peak
