ALASKAN ADVENTURE
June 17 - 25, 2005
Day 1
We flew from Jacksonville to Seattle, arriving in time for a whirlwind tour of the city....

Day 2
The next morning we flew Alaska Airlines with our group to Anchorage, where we immediately visited the Anchorage Museum of Art and History...We were treated to a touring exhibit of "The Shamans: Spirit Guides of Siberia", on loan from St. Petersburg, Russia.

Our very entertaining, knowledgeable docent describes how she survived the earthquake of 1964

Next stop was the Alaska Native Heritage Center, where we learned about the five cultural groups in Alaska: Athabascan, Yup'ik, Inupiaq, Aleut, and Tlingit

The arctic games are held annually in Fairbanks. Below is an example of the type of competition.

A type of housing--especially effective in the winter!

Most interesting and entertaining were performances of traditional eskimo dancing

We were treated to dinner and a program by the Anchorage Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship followed by a night's sleep in their homes.
