(1) "The Island in the Wind" by Elizabeth Kolbert - The whole town, an island in Denmark, made major changes incrementally over a long period of time. So it is about changing "hearts and minds" as well as the technological know-how.  The second part of the article was about Swiss scientists who state that a sustainable, fair world would allow everyone to use 2,000 watts.  I found this concept, as well as their statistics on who uses what right now, really challenging to think about.     (Margaret Nicholson)

(2) Big Foot by Michael Specter - How to identify the carbon footprint for every product. I liked this because it confronted some of the unfounded ideas people fall into, such as "slow food" if that means local is better.  The article shows how counter-intuitive effective greening is.  This may be challenging for the suggestions that superstores such as Walmart might be creating a smaller footprint than moms & pops. (Margaret Nicholson)

(3 The Dangers of Plastic Bags - This is a slideshow that shows statistics and other information about plastic bags.  If you are don't already take a fabric bag to the grocery store, this slide show might be the turning point.
